The Committee against Torture holds its 57th session in Geneva from 18 April until 13 May 2016. On this occasion, FIACAT and ACAT France have submitted a joint alternative report on the implementation by France of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

FIACAT and ACAT - France wish to draw the experts of the Committee’s attention to a number of concerns. These concerns relate mainly to the asylum procedure and the treatment of asylum -seekers, detention conditions and the jurisdiction of the French courts with respect to acts of torture committed abroad.

FIACAT and ACAT -France also wish to underline the issues related to allegations of ill -treatment by police forces and the frequent impunity in this area.
