The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) holds its 56th Ordinary Session from 21 April to 7 May 2015 in Banjul (Gambia). During this Session, Senegal’s periodic reports (8th to 11th) on the implementation of the African Charter of Human and People’s Rights will be reviewed. On this occasion FIACAT (a non -governmental organisation that has enjoyed Observer Status at the ACHPR since 1991) and ACAT Senegal have submitted an alternative report.
This report contains information on the violations in Senegal of Articles 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the African Charter of Human and Peoples’ Rights.
FIACAT and ACAT Senegal’s concerns relate mainly to detention conditions, the non -ratification of the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and obstacles facing the National Observatory of Places of Detention in the performance of its duties.
