A member of ACAT-Burundi for 19 years, Anitha GATERETSE is a Burundian activist involved in the defence of human rights, particularly women's rights. She is devoted to protecting human rights defenders.

Since 2011, she has been coordinating activities to monitor human rights violations, conducting investigations and producing reports. She coordinates ACAT-Burundi's advocacy activities at national and international level, as well as the preparation and submission of alternative reports to the Universal Periodic Review and the Committee against Torture.

In her professional career, she has worked for various Burundian civil society organisations as a project manager, in charge of monitoring and evaluation for youth and women's initiatives, and the fight against torture remains a priority.

As national coordinator of Tournons La Page Burundi since November 2023, she fights for democracy and social justice, with a focus on inequality and violence against women.

Anitha GATERETSE is a lawyer by training, specialising in human rights. She is married and has 3 children.

She was co-opted as a member of the FIACAT International Board in November 2023, and elected to the same board in June 2024.
