The Committee against Torture holds its 54th session in Geneva from 20 April until 15 May 2015.
On this occasion, FIACAT and ACAT Congo have submitted a joint alternative report on the implementation by Congo of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. FIACAT and ACAT Congo wish to draw the experts of the Committee’s attention to a number of concerns. These concerns relate mainly to the absence of definition of torture in conformity with the Convention, the inefficiency of the National Human Rights Commission and its lack of independence, the human rights violations committed during the forced eviction “Mbata ya bakolo”, the absence of National Preventive Mechanism and the detention conditions.
