Italy will be reviewed for the third time during the 34th session of the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review.

This joint alternative report by FIACAT and ACAT italy aims at assessing the implementation of recommendations accepted by Italy during its previous review and the evolution of the situation of human rights in the country.

FIACAT and ACAT Italy wish to draw attention to a number of concerns. These concerns relate mainly to the prison overcrowding, the national preventive mechanisms, the number of suicides in prison, the children imprisoned with their mothers, the criminalisation of torture, the cases of torture and ill-treatment by security forces, the situation of migrants and asylum seekers and the national human rights institution.
