Trained in international humanitarian law and international human rights law, Lionel’s work with detainees started 13 years ago. First, as national coordinator in Niger then as regional coordinator working in 7 countries of Western Africa at PRisonniers Sans Frontières.
He joined FIACAT in 2012 to put his field experience in close relations with victims to the benefit of FIACAT’s advocacy actions at the United Nations. Now based in Brussels, Belgium, he continues to act against torture as Advocacy Director before international and regional mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights (UN, CoE, EU and ACHPR). To remain close to the reality faced by victims, he manages the programme on abusive pre-trial detention, with the ACAT partners in Africa.
He is also a teaching assistant at University Pierre Mendès-France (Law and Political Science University) and a research associate at CERDAP (Centre for studies and research in diplomacy, public administration and politics).
