Launch of the 9th Norbert Kenne Training Cycle

Grand-Popo (Benin) – September 1 to 12, 2025

This Monday, September 1, we were delighted to officially start the 9th Norbert Kenne Training Cycle.

For two weeks, 20 young human rights defenders from 10 French-speaking African countries will follow a program combining rigorous academic instruction with practical learning. This approach aims to sustainably strengthen civil society organizations and provide them with modern tools to address current challenges.

Inspired by the legacy of Pastor Norbert Kenne, a Cameroonian and former Africa Delegate of FIACAT (1995–1998), this training was designed by Africans, for Africans, in Africa.

The 2025–2026 cohort brings together 7 women and 13 men, bearers of hope and agents of change for the future, committed to strengthening the protection of human rights.

A huge thank you to all those who make this journey possible:

  • Professor Roger Koudé, Lecturer in International Law at the Lyon Human Rights Institute and Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair “Memory, Cultures, and Interculturality” (UCLy)
  • Sandrine Cursoux-Bruyère, Director of the Lyon Human Rights Institute
  • Pacôme Akogou, President of ACAT Benin, and his entire team
  • The FIACAT International Office and Secretariat
  • The United Against Torture Consortium
